About Me

The engineer, researcher, and teacher behind the work

A closer look at my background, education, and what I care about professionally.

Who I Am

Full Stack Developer, AI Engineer, and Network Security Researcher

I'm Habtamu Molla, a full stack developer, AI engineer, and network & IoT security researcher based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. My work sits at the intersection of three things I care about equally: building software that real institutions depend on, researching how to make connected systems safer, and teaching the people who will build the next generation of them.

Academic Foundation

My foundation is academic. I hold an MSc in Computer Networks and Communications from Wollo University, where I graduated with a perfect 4.0 CGPA and a thesis: Design a Robust DDoS Attack Detection and Mitigation Scheme in SDN-Edge-IoT by Leveraging Machine Learning, later published in IEEE Access. That same curiosity now anchors my broader research into IoT security, software-defined networking, edge and fog computing, and applied deep learning, spanning six published papers and Ten plus active peer-review roles with IEEE and other international venues.

Professional Roles Today

I currently wear several hats at once. I'm the Individual Consultant behind the ICSMIS executive dashboard, a UNDP-funded initiative with Ethiopia's Federal Civil Service Commission, owning full-stack delivery end to end. In parallel, I work as a Software Business Analyst at Tria Trading PLC on SmartOffice, a national enterprise platform now running across major Ethiopian public institutions, and I previously served as a Data Scientist building AI-powered BI solutions at Condigitial Technologies.

Teaching & Training

Teaching has been a constant throughout: over Seven years lecturing in Information Technology, Computer Science, and Computer Networks & Communications, first at Debark University and now at the Ethiopian Public Service University. That commitment to capacity-building carried me into becoming a Training-of-Trainers graduate of the SNA Africa Project's programme on the digitalisation of public administration, and now into designing training I can deliver to others.

Research Community

Beyond my own publications, I actively peer-review for IEEE Access, the IEEE Internet of Things Journal, IEEE OJCOMS, and several international conferences, and serve on the academic and editorial boards of two publishers, work that keeps me close to the latest thinking in network and IoT security.

What ties all of it together is a preference for systems that connect many moving parts. modules, networks, people, institutions, into something a decision-maker, a student, or a citizen can actually use. Whether that means shipping a dashboard, publishing a paper, grading a thesis, or running a training session, the goal is the same: build things that hold up under real use, and help others learn to do the same.
